Residence Additions
This project was a satisfying pleasure, to make additions and alterations to a Joseph Esherick house, designed in the 60s, for which Peter was the Project Manager. After the death of the original owner, the house was acquired by a sophisticated couple who appreciated Joe’s original design but wanted to modernize and add some lower floors. The small house stretches out along the contours of a very steep and narrow lot on the south facing slopes of Sausalito with a world-class view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. The south side of the house is mostly floor to ceiling glass to maximize the view. In the living room, the monolithic stone fireplace was refaced with wood. In the North-West corner, a long vertical window is placed flush with the wall washing the wall with light without any shadow — a window jamb would have created several inches of shadow.
