Bermak
Residence
The design of this extraordinary, light-filled house in the Oakland Hills developed through weekly meetings with the clients, a psychiatrist and his wife.
The site is an extraordinarily steep hillside in the Oakland Hills overlooking San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate. The owner wanted to capitalize to the maximum on the view but wanted to leave the wild rugged character of the site as little disturbed as possible. Other than the reinforced concrete on the west end, the house is all conventional wood frame construction and the exterior is re-sawn plywood.
