From the entry, the space is continually expanding, with walls that taper out and ceiling staying at the same level while the hall steps down. At the base of the stairs, one side is a wall of glass looking into the courtyard while the other wall tapers out, and then the space opens on one side to the dining room and on the other into the two-story high living room.
